This 3-slide set, presented by Portelligent president David Carey at the World Handset Forum (San Diego -- Dec. 10, 2004), summarizes cost estimates for two GSM handset architectures that would permit a total bill-of-materials in the $25 range. The overall question posed at the panel session where Portelligent presented was how the industry can achieve a very low-end handset that enables sales to "the next billion users." Portelligent is providing the presentation to customers to provoke thought, comment, and discussion on this important topic.
