Product DescriptionThe Motorola Krave may resemble a “Star-Trek” communicator when the flip touchscreen is opened, but what makes this phone unique is the two-layer touch interface achieved with a transparent capacitive mesh screen. With the flip closed, the user can choose, with the touch of a finger, from a four-icon menu located across the top of the display for TV, photos, navigation, and incoming messages. With the flip open, twelve additional menu icons become available.
Although the earpiece speaker appears to be suspended within the transparent flip, a mesh of photo-patterned capacitive metal lines embedded in the clear plastic enables the four-icon menu. The mesh also supplies power to the speaker.
The Krave, available through Verizon in the U.S. market, supports a host of premium features, including V-cast mobile TV, music (via the “Rhapsody” service), visual voicemail, mobile e-mail, an HTML browser, voice commands, iTAP predictive text entry, IM, and SMS, MMS, and EMS messaging. Internal memory can be supplemented with a microSD card, providing up to 8Gb of storage for photos taken with the 2.0MP camera.
Motorola claims 500 hours of standby operation and 250 minutes of talk-time for the Krave.
