Product DescriptionReleased in May 2008, the N78 adds to Nokia’s N-series of smartphones. The N78 is a candy-bar phone that supports quad-band GSM (850, 900, 1800, 1900MHz) and dual-band W-CDMA (900, 2100MHz)cellular communications. The N78 has pre-loaded maps and utilizes both GPS and A-GPS for navigation. Surfing the Web is supported with 802.11 b/g WLAN (Wi-Fi). The 2.4-inch, 16 million color display accounts for over half the phone’s length. The keypad is dimmed while the phone is idle, and lit when the phone is in use. Along with a numeric keypad and softkeys, there is a Navi™wheel for navigating through menus. The N78 has up to 70MB of user memory and up to 2GB of additional memory using its microSD slot. The N78 is e-mail and text-messaging capable, and can synchronize to office PCs using USB, Wi-Fi, or Bluetooth. The 3.2Mpixel camera uses Carl Zeiss optics and Tesser lenses with 8x digital zoom. There is also a separate CIF camera located on the front of the phone for video-calling.
The N78 weighs 101.8grams with the 3.7V, 1200mAh Li-ion battery installed. It has a reported standby time of 320 hours and 3.2 hours of talk-time (W-CDMA). Other highlights of the N78 are long music playback time (24 hours claimed) and the ability to both transmit (supporting RDS/RBDS receivers) and receive FM stereo radio.
