Product DescriptionQualcomm adds to their line of Internet-anywhere Gobi solutions with the Gobi 2000, a quad-band GSM and CDMA / W-CDMA embedded wireless card allowing Internet access almost anywhere in the world through multiple cellular networks. The Gobi 2000 is one of two Gobi products offered by Qualcomm (as of 3Q 2010) and both are follow-ups to the company’s first Gobi product, the UNDP-1 from 2008 (see TechInsights product teardown report: Qualcomm UNDP-1 #11000-081117-DCf). The Gobi 2000 adds HSDPA/HSUPA to the coverage protocols and frequencies. It also supports standalone GPS, A-GPS, and gpsOneXTRA location technologies. Gobi 2000 application software is compatible with systems running the Linux, Windows XP, Vista, or Windows 7 operating systems. Several OEMs offer laptops with pre-installed Gobi products, including HP, Dell, and Lenovo.
