Product Description

The image- and audio-centric SGH-a717 from Samsung is a clamshell UMTS handset supporting quad-band GSM and dual-band W-CDMA communications. Key features include a large 240 x 320 pixel, 262,144-color, QVGA TFT-LCD display, stereo BluetoothTM support, and a 2MP camera. The slim profile, black case, and flat metallic keypad give the a717 a sleek look and feel. The clamshell hinge is solidly constructed and integrates a rotating camera module; there’s an audible “click” when the flip is opened. The SGH-a717, currently available through AT&T in the US market, supports GPRS, EDGE, and the higher-speed HSDPA for data transfer. Users can record, stream, and share video (with record-time dependent on available memory), take high-resolution photos, check e-mail on the go (using Windows LiveR), view documents, and listen to downloaded music via the hands-free speaker or stereo headset. The a717 comes with 26MB of internal memory, which is expandable with a microSD card. The 3.7V, Li-ion battery is reported to deliver up to 4 hours of talk time and up to 250 hours in standby. The Samsung specification does not make a distinction between GSM and W-CDMA times.
