Product DescriptionThe SPH-M8100, released in April 2007 as the newest member of Samsung’s hi-spec MIT (Mobile Intelligent Terminal) family of devices, was billed in a press release as “the world’s first Mobile WiBRO [WiMAX in U.S.] PDA/phone.” At the 4G Forum in August 2006, Samsung demonstrated WiMAX performance with data transmission speeds of 100Mbps on a moving bus and 3.5Gbps under stationary conditions, though it is unclear what true user data speeds might be expected with the SPH-M8100 itself. The slider handset has a large, 2.8-inch, 240x320-pixel touch display (65,536 colors), T-DMB Mobile TV, a 2MP camera, and a second 0.3MP VGA camera for video conference calling. There is 128MB ROM/64MB RAM of internal memory, which is expandable with MMC card. The SPH8100 also features BluetoothTM Stereo Music profile (A2DP0), Bluetooth, USB high-speed data transfer, Windows Mobile 5.0 PocketPC, RSS, “Push-to-All” (push-to-talk in U.S.). The external antenna and the stylus retract to stow away within the body of the unit. A second battery pack/charger dock also comes with the handset, as well as a charger cable.
