The Samsung Galaxy Player is the first Android-powered competitor to Apple’s iPod Touch. This model sports a 5” (800 x 480) touchscreen, 8 GB internal memory with a MicroSD expansion slot, a 3.2 MP rear camera, and a VGA front-facing camera for video conferencing. The rear camera can record video as well, at resolutions up to 720 x 480. Connectivity options include WiFi b/g/n, Bluetooth 3.0, FM radio, GPS, and USB. Cell-phone style placement of a microphone and earpiece make WiFi VOIP calls convenient. Rear stereo speakers and a 3.5mm audio jack provide audio output. No connection is provided for external video output. The Galaxy’s 1 GHz processor runs Android 2.3.5 and supports any non-cellular Android app. Battery life is a claimed 60 hours of audio playback or 8 hours of video playback.

The Cowon iAudio 10-3BL is a music player as well as a picture, video and document viewer. The device is available in either black or white and is powered by a 500MHz processor. An FM receiver with scan and preset functions and a voice recorder are also included. Audio can be played through the internal speaker or through the headphones. Customization is accomplished with the user having the ability to change the color of the background and/or text as well as the layout of the on-screen menu. Sound preferences are adjusted with the 35 equalizer settings. The player comes equipped with a 3” inch TFT display and illuminated touch-sensitive keys on the area below the display.

A free downloadable application allows iRadar to use the smartphone touchscreen as a surrogate display via Bluetooth. The Belkin N750DB Wireless Dual-Band Router uses a technology called Multibeam Antenna for simultaneous wireless transmission on both the 2.4 GHz and 5.0 GHz bands. The combined theoretical rate is 750 Mbps (300 Mbps on the 2.4 GHz band and 450 Mbps on the 5 GHz band). The router has five internal antennas and provides four Ethernet ports along with two USB ports. Optimized for HD video streaming and gaming, and selling for under one hundred dollars, the Belkin router is one of the least expensive top-of-the-line routers on the market.

The router also offers a full range of features, including flexible parental controls, guest access (only) to the Internet, broadband usage meter, Netgear ReadySHARE (shared storage via USB drive), and a DLNA Media Server for streaming media to DLNA HDTV, Blu-ray players, and game consoles.

Vizio introduces a WirelessHD 1.0 media system with the XWH200. WirelessHD 1.0 operates on the 60GHz radio frequency. The advantage of having a wireless audio and video network using WirelessHD is that the streaming of audio and video does not tax a home’s existing WiFi network. The XWH200 streams 1080p video and 7.1 surround sound audio and can support up to four separate HDMI connected media devices. The receiver and transmitter can be as far as 30ft apart, with the best results occurring if they are both in the line of sight of one another, although line of sight is not technically required for operation. The Revue by Logitech is a set-top box for HDTV that uses the Google TV Internet-connected television platform. The system is optimized for Dish Network but will operate through any provider. The Revue is also capable of streaming content from the Internet or a computer, controlling a DVR, and accessing the music, movies, and television shows on YouTube and Netflix. The Revue is shipped with an AC adapter, cables, and a full-sized QWERTY keyboard that incorporates a laptop-like touchpad, directional arrow buttons for navigation, and numerous other controls.

Typical speeds quoted from the website are 5-12 Mbps downstream and 2-5 Mbps upstream, although up to 20 Mbps downstream and 10 Mbps upstream has been demonstrated. The SCH-LC11 can connect with up to five WiFi-enabled devices at the same time, and is backwards compatible with Verizon’s wireless 3G network. The compact hotspot measures roughly 90x59x11 mm and weighs only 82 grams with battery. The replaceable 5.55Wh Li-ion battery provides a standby time of 9 hours and an active use time of 3.6 hours.
