Bayer Contour USB Blood Glucose Monitor:   The Bayer Contour USB Blood Glucose Meter is the first “Plug-n-Play” blood glucose meter with integrated monitoring software. Testing with this USB computer-interfaced device takes about five seconds, with only a small sample of blood (about 0.6 uL). The meter stores up to two thousand tests results to enable patients to manage their blood sugar levels and provide their doctor with daily results, including date and time information, for both and after meals. The Contour USB has 2000-test result storage and 500MB of free memory for user data. The Contour can be recharged with an included AC charging adapter or thru an active USB computer port.

3M Littmann 3200 Electronic Stethoscope:   The 3M-Littmann Model 3200 Electronic Stethoscope is the next generation of technology offered by 3M™ - Littmann. When used with the included Zargis ® StethAssist™ software auscultation of Heart and Lung functions can be monitored and transmitted via Bluetooth® to a computer in real-time with visual interpretation and subsequently shared with peers for analysis or attached to medical records for future review and comparison. With 3M’s improved and patented soft and hard “Snap Tight” eartip materials ambient noise is reduced by a reported 85%. Sounds can be amplified or reduced for clarity with volume control keys located near the display. The Stethoscope uses a single AA battery. There is a Battery Life Indicator on the display which will begin to blink when only a few hours of battery capacity remains.

Autonet Mobile Cellular WiFi Router:   Autonet Mobile’s AS-BUSRTR-03 CDMA-EvDO/WiFi cellular router for vehicular applications provides remote internet access while on the move. Employing a technology Autonet calls “TRU Link” the router monitors such things as signal strength, packet loss, latency, and speeds to detect when a signal needs to be refreshed, or a new tower connection needs to be made, thus eliminating dropped connections. Up to 10 devices can be connected to the router simultaneously and it can be located anywhere in a vehicle. No special software is required. It works with any operating system and is claimed to operate at speeds from 400 to 800Kbps. The release of new apps and services are promised from Autonet without the need for hardware upgrades. A monthly service fee of $29-$59USD is required for 1GB and 5GB data plans respectively along with the $350-$400 hardware purchase price.

3M MPro110 Picoprojector:   The Micro Professional Projector (MPro 110) is one of the new ultra small pico projectors to hit the market recently and is a first generation product of its kind from the 3M Company. The pocket-sized projector uses 3M’s proprietary LCoS optical engine and is the first to support computer generated VGA input as well as composite video. The device employs an LED light source and is handheld or used with a tripod, but lacks a speaker. The MPro 110 is ideal for small conferences and works best at projection distances under 50 inches. A focus control is provided, but no brightness adjustment is available. The unit is powered by a 3.7 volt, 1050mAh removable Li-ion battery and comes with an AC charge and video cables.

Huawei UMG1691 UMTS USB Data Modem:   The Huawei UMG1691 USB dongle for wireless data supplies connectivity for both HSDPA and EDGE networks. The UMG1691 also supports both quad-band GSM and W-CDMA (Band IV) networks. The built-in T-Mobile software provides the interface for connecting to cellular networks as well as WiFi. (Although WiFi is not part of the unit, the software will serve to control an external WiFi source.) Other notable features include an external antenna connector and a microSD card slot enabling the device to be used as a memory stick. The pivoting USB connector allows more flexibility in placement and could improve connectivity when a more vertically oriented antenna is used.

C-motech/Sprint U300 3G/4G USB Data Modem:   The dual-mode U300 USB Modem offers WiMAX 2.5GHz and CDMA-EVDO RevA 800/1900 MHz service for Sprint customers. The WiMAX service coverage is limited to relatively few US cities as of late 2009 but the 3G access, with claimed download speeds from 3 to 6Mbps, is available nationwide at a cost of $70/month with a two-year Sprint contract. The device is free to the consumer after a price reduction and $50.00 mail-in rebate. The EV-DO (CDMA) service is limited to 5GB of data transfers per month, but no such limit is imposed on WiMAX usage. The U300 modem is compatible with Windows Vista, XP, and 2000. The USB connector can be rotated to several different angles or clipped to the top of a laptop display screen using the included accessories.

Novatel MiFi 2200 Cellular WiFi Access Point:   The MiFi 2200 Mobile Hotspot combines a 3G modem and WiFi router in a battery-operated, wireless, portable device that’s smaller than an iPod Touch. Once the device is activated and registered, a mobile broadband connection to the Verizon 3G network (where available) can be established by simply pressing the power button. The device allows wireless access to the Internet for up to five simultaneous WiFi-enabled users. The MiFi has an internal antenna and operates on 800/1900 MHz CDMA (EV-DO Rev. A) with 802.11b/g WiFi. The 1150mAh battery provides up to 4 hours of operation between charges (with one WiFi client) or 40 hours standby time. A service contract with Verizon Wireless is required.

Huawei T-Mobile WebConnect UMG 181 Quad-band GSM/EDGE + Quad-band W-CDMA/HSDPA USB Modem:   The Huawei UMG181 USB dongle for wireless data supplies connectivity for HSDPA and EDGE networks. The UMG181 includes support for both Quad-band GSM and W-CDMA as well as GPS though the GPS is not implemented in the T-Mobile configuration. Other notable features include an external antenna connector and a microSD card slot enabling the device to be used as a memory stick. The pivoting USB connector allows flexibility in dongle placement and could improve reception quality with a vertically-oriented antenna.

Sony Ericsson Yari U100i UMTS Phone:   The quadband GSM, dual-band W-CDMA slider “Yari” U100i from Sony Ericsson is marketed towards users who enjoy playing games with features such as 3D, Gesture, and Motion Gaming. There are two additional game specific keys located above the bright 16 million color, 2.4” TFT display. Games, music, FM radio, and phone calls can be enjoyed hands-free with the Bluetooth stereo. The U100i comes equipped with GPS Navigation, Google Maps, Wisepilot, 60MB of internal user memory, Google Search, Access NetFront Web, PictBridge, Instant Messaging, MMS, SMS, sound recorder, Music call, and the typical personal management tools. The Yari has a 5MP camera with auto focus, face and smile detection. There is an additional video call camera located on the front of the phone. The U100i weighs approximately 116.9 grams and is powered by a 3.7V Lithium Polymer battery.

Motorola Milestone A853 UMTS Smartphone:   The Motorola Milestone is Motorola’s Droid version for Europe release in Q4 of 2009. It is a quad-band GSM, dual-band W-CDMA phone running the Android 2.0 OS. The Milestone has the same physical dimensions as the US released Droid along with equivalent features such as GPS, a 5MP camera, a full QWERTY keyboard, and a capacitive touch-screen display. However, the Milestone has enabled full multi-touch (namely pinch-and-zoom) which was not enabled on the US Droid despite hardware support for the feature. Using either the cellular network or WiFi, the Milestone has web access, Google Mail, Google Search, Google Talk, and the Android Market. There is a speakerphone, headset jack, and Bluetooth for hands-free calls. The Milestone is powered by the same 3.7V Li-Ion battery as the Motorola Droid. It has a 3.7” 480 x 854 pixel TFT-LCD display with over 16 million colors, and had a measured weight of 168.5 grams.

Samsung SCH-u450 Intensity Dual-band CDMA Phone:   The SCH-U450 Intensity is a compact slider messaging handsets released by Samsung. Service is provided by Verizon. The SCH-u450 is geared toward the entry-level user who may want a few multimedia features but is not concerned with fast data transfer. The U450 also has two Soft-keys located on the top of the QWERTY keyboard on either side for easier texting in landscape mode. IM, Chat, Mobile Email, Music, and Picture downloads via Media Center and host PC are supported. Bluetooth, VZ Navigator™ and a 1.3MP camera with “Night Shot,” to allow photos in limited lighting without a flash are provided along with 128MB of user memory and a microSD™ card slot expandable to 16GB are among the additional feature. The 3.7V / 960mAh Li-ion battery is claimed to provide up to 5 hours of Talk Time and up to 300 hours of Standby Time. An extended life battery is also available that extend charge life to a reported 7 hours of Talk Time and up to 500 hours of Standby Time.

Acer F900 Tempo UMTS Touchscreen Phone:   The Acer Tempo F900 is a Quad-band GSM / Tri-band W-CDMA Smartphone released in Europe mid-2009. The 3.8 inch resistive touch-screen display can be utilized using either a finger or the included stylus. There is a 3.1 MP camera on the back with an auto focus zoom. Internally, there is 128 MB of SDRAM memory, 256 MB of flash memory, and an external microSD slot to expand memory. The application processor is provided by Samsung which runs applications such as Office Mobile, Outlook Mobile, Internet Explorer 6, Maps, and Web search which are pre-loaded on the phone. The GPS receiver capability is joined by Bluetooth v2.0 and WiFi 802.11 b/g communication capabilities. The Acer Temp F900 measures 117.40 x 63.03 x 13.05 mm and weighs 142.6grams with its 3.7V Li-polymer battery installed. GSM based talk time is reported to be up to 6 hours with a reported standby time of 300 hours

Nokia N900 UMTS Smart Phone:   Nokia integrates their open-source Maemo 5 platform for the first time in a smartphone with the introduction of the N900. Although the N900’s predecessors, the N810 and N800, were strictly Internet tablets, the form factor remains mostly the same, with the reappearance of the resistive touchscreen and slide-out QWERTY keypad (with expected size shrinks with each new release). However, the resemblances between the N900 and its forerunners end there, with the inclusion of phone capability over Quad-band GSM/EDGE and Tri-band W-CDMA/HSPA (900/1700/2100 MHz) networks. Other features include a 5MP camera with dual LED flash, autofocus, and up to 25fps video recording; VGA web camera; TV-Out (PAL/NTSC); A-GPS; WiFi 802.11b/g; Stereo Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR; and integrated FM transmitter.

Sony Ericsson Satio UMTS 12MP Touch Screen Phone:   Released in the UK 3Q 2009, the Satio cell phone is from Sony Ericsson. This is a high-end camera-centric feature phone complete with a 3.5-inch, 16-M color TFT-LCD, 12.1MP camera, video recording, accelerometer, stereo Bluetooth, GPS, WiFi, music player, FM radio, and USB data transfer. The Satio uses Symbian’s S60 5th edition operating system. The Satio (originally called the Idou) is available in black, silver, or Bordeaux red. Cellular operating protocols are GSM/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900 MHz plus W-CDMA/HSPA 900/2100 MHz. The unit weighed in at 127.7 grams.

Motorola CLIQ MB200 UMTS Smart Phone:   The Motorola CLIQ is designed with the social networking addict in mind. This quad-band GSM/tri-band W-CDMA slider phone has the ability to simultaneously keep tabs on many social networks. The Android-based phone also provides the user with a 5MP CMOS camera for either storing or uploading photos. A microSD card, USB, and Bluetooth capabilities allow for greater versatility. The CLIQ is equipped with a 3.1-inch color TFT-LCD display and touchscreen as well as a full QWERTY keyboard and navigation pad.

Nikon S1000PJ 12MP Picoprojector Digital Camera:   According to Nikon Corporation, the Coolpix S1000pj is the world’s first compact digital camera to feature a built-in projector. Photos or 640x480 movie clips taken with the camera are projected on a flat surface with an image size of from 5–40 inches. The camera has a 12-megapixel, 5X optical zoom NIKKOR lens system that provides 28mm wide-angle coverage, and a 2.7-inch TFT monitor with anti-reflective coating. Other features include Best Shot Selector, Motion Detector-adjusted ISO, Scene Auto Selector, Smart Portrait System, and Vibration Reduction that combines electronic and lens-shift techniques. The camera includes a rechargeable Li-ion battery and an SD/SDHC media card slot.

Kodak Zi8 1080P 5MP Video Camera:   The Kodak Zi8 is an improved version of last year’s Zi6. It competes favorably in the low-cost pocket camcorder market with such pioneers as Pure Digital. The new Zi8 is the first pocket cam to offer 1080p high-definition recording and image stabilization. The Zi8 also has a 5-megapixel still photo-taking mode, which the Flip still doesn’t provide. Other features include a flexible swing-out USB connector, removable Li-ion battery, SD/SDHC card slot, and the long-requested external microphone jack. This camcorder can also record 720p at 60fps and WVBA, employs smart face-tracking technology, and has a 2.5-inch color LCD.

Canon SD980IS 12MP 5X Zoom Touchscreen Camera:   The PowerShot SD980 IS features a 12.1-megapixel CCD sensor with a wide-angle 5X optical zoom lens. It’s Canon’s first camera with an LCD touchscreen. The 3-inch PureColor touchscreen replaces some of the camera’s hard controls and includes touch-selectable focus points in record mode and swiping operations in playback mode. The SD980 IS also features optical image stabilization and a program mode with a variety of scenes. It can capture HD video clips at 720p with a frame rate of 30fps, in monaural sound. The camera includes a rechargeable Li-ion battery and provides a storage slot for a compatible memory card.

Pentax Optio W80 12MP/5X Zoom Ruggedized Digital Camera:   The Pentax Imaging System Division of Hoya Corporation has been building ruggedized cameras since 2003. The Optio W80 is the mid-2009 addition to the series and the most rugged to date. The W80 is designed to withstand water pressure to depths of 16 feet (5 meters) for up to two hours. It is also shockproof and can withstand drops of up to 3.3 feet (1 meter) as well as operate at temperatures as low as -10° Celsius. Besides the rugged design, the camera features a 12.1-megapixel image sensor; 5X optical zoom; and 2.5-inch, 230,000-dot anti-reflective color LCD. It can also record HD movies with sound, has a super-macro mode for taking photos as close as 1cm, and employs the latest technology, including Face Detection, Smile Capture, and Shake Reduction.

PowerMat PMM-PT100A Charging Mat:   Marketed as a "Wireless Charging" system, the Powermat PMM-PT100A enables the charging of handheld electronic devices equipped with Powermat receiver technology. Receiver circuitry is packaged unobtrusively inside battery covers and decorative "skins." Additional devices may be charged using the included "Powercube" receiver. The unit features three independent charging surfaces, each capable of accommodating one device. For wired charging, the unit also features an auxiliary USB-style output. The Powermat folds for storage in the supplied carrying case. Seven adapter tips are included for interface with a variety of devices.

Barnes & Noble nook e-reader:   The Barnes & Noble nook adds a new feature to the growing number of “electronic book readers”: a 3.5-inch, color touchscreen below the 6.0-inch E-Ink reading display. The nook runs the Android 1.5 operating system and can operate for up to a claimed 10 days on the removable 3.7V Li-ion battery. An AT&T SIM card (activated with purchase of the nook) allows users to download ebooks from Barnes & Noble’s online bookstore wherever cell coverage is provided. With the built-in WiFi enabled, the nook can also download ebooks over local-area wireless connections. In addition to the 2GB of onboard memory, a microSD socket allows for memory expansion.

Qualcomm/HTC PTV350 FLO TV Receiver:   The PTV 350 is a personal television receiver launched in October 2009 by FLO TV, the mobile-broadcast television subsidiary of Qualcomm. The hand-held TV features a 3.5” touchscreen and stereo speakers and operates on a rechargeable li-ion battery with 5 hours of viewing time. QVGA video is streamed at 15–30 frames per second for paid service of select channels. Service is available mostly in urban areas. The unit includes a built-in stand and comes with a 3.5mm headset, USB cable, and battery charger.

Motorola SURFboard SB6120 DOCSIS 3.0 Broadband Cable Modem:   The ultrabroadband Motorola SURFboard SB6120 modem is claimed as the world’s first DOCSIS (“Data-Over-Cable Interface Specification”) 3.0 cable modem, and is backwards compatible with DOCSIS 1.x/2.0 networks. Performance of existing cable networks is enhanced through bonding of 4 upstream and 4 downstream channels, allowing service providers the opportunity to offer advanced data and multimedia services at speeds over 100 Mbps in each direction. The SB6120 supports IPv4 and IPv6 for expanded addressing capabilities and advanced encryption services. The modem has a 10/100/1000Base-T Gigabit Port for high-speed wired networks and an advanced tuner supporting 1GHz downstream input.

Cisco-Linksys WET610N 802.11n Ethernet Bridge:   The Cisco-Linksys WET610N is a dual-band Ethernet bridge (2.4GHz & 5.0GHz). Acting as the go-between for an existing wireless network and an Ethernet wired network device, the WET610N provides connectivity for the 802.11 a, b, g, and n protocols. The WET610N supports WEP and WiFi Protected Access 2 (WPA2) security up to 128-bit encryption. It has one-touch setup that can be used in conjunction with compatible routers or wireless access points to simplify the setup process. The three internal antennas afford a wide coverage range.

Netgear WNDR3300 802.11n Wireless Router:   During the 3rd quarter of 2009, Netgear released their new dual-band wireless-N router, the WNDR3300. According to Netgear, the router’s bandwidth allows users to simultaneously surf the web, send e-mail, stream HD video, and play online games. Other notable network features include “Push ‘N’ Connect”, which allows users to connect wireless devices to their secure network with a push of the large Netgear button; Quality of Service (QOS), which prioritizes traffic based on the application in use; Double Firewall; Denial-of-Service prevention; Intrusion Detection and Prevention; and WiFi Protected Setup (WPS). Parental features include time-base usage, URL filtering, remote management, and trusted user control. Inside the unit, multiple antenna choices are used to compensate for interference and increase the range of the router. Supported wireless modes are Type 1: 2.4GHz band (802.11n/802.11g/802.11b); Type 2: 2.4GHz (802.11g/802.11b at 2.4GHz) & 5GHz Dual-band (802.11n/802.11a at 5GHz).
